ARCADIA SALON DISCUSSION SERIES
What is Arcadia? The romantic notion of Arcadia is based on a rugged area on the Peloponnesian Peninsula for which it is named. The mountainous wilderness was secluded from invasions and this ancient region became known as a haven where music, art, and literature flourished.
When the museum acquired the Arcadia sign that formerly adorned the famous lower Greenville Avenue venue, the Arcadia Salon was created to provide a place for art patrons and artists to interact and discuss relevant topics in the contemporary art scene. Held periodically on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30, the salon features a wine and cheese bar with lively discussions led by artists or experts in their field. It launched in September of 2007 with a provacative talk about public art led by Gail Sachson, Vice Chair of the City of Dallas Cultural Affairs Commission. Since its inception, the Arcadia Salon has featured artists, collectors, and educators including Betty Gold, Roger Winter, Ania Borzobohaty, Maria Arvalaiz-Gordon, Saverio Cecere, Simone Debbas, Betty Blake and Jim Allumbaugh.

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS
STUDENT WORKSHOPS
The Museum holds art workshops and classes for children ages Kindergarten through college. We are a provider of visual arts to the Dallas Independent School District through the Arts Partners program. Students will receive age appropriate instruction in the principles of art using color, space, design, shapes, etc. The children create their own three-dimensional projects inspired by the artwork in the museum and take their creations to share in class or with parents. This is also a great instructional opportunity for geometry classes and we have special classes directed towards those students. We also hold workshops for all “special needs” students upon request. Get a group together and call us. The cost for the workshops are $5.00 per student and include instructor and materials. Scholarships are available based on need.
SENIOR WORKSHOPS
Seniors receive both an art talk and a workshop when they come to the museum from senior citizen centers and retirement homes. The seniors take the work they create home with them.
FUNDING
This program as well as the workshops for students, was begun through a generous grant from Susan and Lawrence Hirsch.

DOCENT-LED TOURS
Visiting tour groups from other cities, school groups, art clubs, and local civic groups, are among those who have participated in docent led tours. These are available for any groups, any time, with advance notice.
MADI is a great artistic adventure, and perhaps, the only existing movement which can justify half a century of existance. MADI is more than an avant-garde movement; it has an underlying wave with several and differing offspring. It is the slow-paced growth of a tectonic plate in the history of art. Indeed, since art and environment are perveived as the fusion of two cultural phenomena, the progression and expression of both of these blend in everyday life.
