BIENNIAL: ORIGINS IN GEOMETRY – Deadline for submissions: May 1, 2021

Biennial: Origins in Geometry is a juried competition to recognize excellence in emerging and established visual artists deriving inspiration from geometric abstraction. Artists who are selected as finalists will be featured in an exhibit at the Museum July 30 through October 24, included in a catalog with other finalists, receive exposure on the museum website, and have the opportunity to win cash awards for their exemplary work.
The Museum of Geometric and MADI Art opened in February 2003. The Museum concentrates on modern and contemporary geometric, constructivist and kinetic artwork. It is also the first museum with a concentration on MADI art, which is always non-representational, hard-edged, and comes out of the frame.
JUROR:
Mokha Laget has served as Guest Curator at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art since 2017. She is a recognized artist exhibiting internationally, including with Madi artists in France and Italy and at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris. Her writings have appeared in The New Art Examiner, Sculpture magazine, The Washington Review, THE magazine and the Santa Fe Reporter and she has been featured in several exhibition catalogues. Ms. Laget is also a published translator, and the 2019 recipient of a Pollock Krasner artist award. She lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
AWARDS: A total of $3000 will be awarded as follows:
Best of Show – $1,500; Second Place – $1000; and Third Place – $500.
ELIGIBILITY:
– The competition is open to all artists working in all mediums.
– All work of art is acceptable as long as it:
- Incorporates geometric elements either as the basis for exploration, the underlying structure or within the finished work
- Has been made within the last two years –
- Does not exceed 24” x 30” (60 x 77cm)
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
– Only digital submissions will be accepted. A maximum of 3 pieces may be submitted. 3D works may include one detail shot per work for a total of 6 images. Image files should be sent as jpegs, 300 dpi resolution, 1600 x 1600 pixels maximum.
-Number each entry according to the entry form. Image titles should be labeled with your last name, followed by title of work and date.
(Example: 1_LASTNAME_TITLE_YEAR.jpg)
– The maximum size of total entry should not exceed 8MB. Individual emails with combined attachments larger than 8MB are unable to be received.
– Due to space restrictions Preference will be given to work not exceeding 24” x 30” (60 x 77cm).
FEES: There is a $50 entry fee, which includes entry for 3 pieces, and a one-year membership in the Museum. A maximum of 2 images may be submitted for 3D pieces only.

NOTIFICATION: Applicants will be notified of acceptance by June 11, 2021. The museum retains the right to reject any selected work that differs from the submitted application in medium, dimensions, or format.
DELIVERY: Participant Finalists’ work must arrive at the MADI by July 16, 2021
Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony: Friday, July 30, 2021, 6 – 8pm (to be confirmed)
LIABILITY & AGREEMENT: Works will be insured while on the premises of The Museum of Geometric and MADI Art. However, the Museum cannot be responsible for damage or loss incurred during transit. The Museum of Geometric and MADI retains the right to display and reproduce work accepted for this exhibition for publicity and promotional purposes.
Exhibiting artists are responsible for round-trip shipping of their work. Upon acceptance, the work to be exhibited must be delivered ready-to-hang. Sculptural works can be accommodated with pedestals as needed. Artists wishing to exhibit kinetic or projected works, must provide exhibit ready equipment to show work as it is intended. The Museum of Geometric and MADI Art does not provide video projectors. Your entry constitutes understanding and agreement with the conditions outlined in this prospectus.
