ADRIANA
DORTA
From a very early age, Adriana Dorta showed artistic talent: she was able to create assorted shapes and forms using an assortment of mediums with her hands. Born in the city of Caracas, Venezuela on October 11, 1969, her teen years evolved in the city of Paris, France, where her inclination towards the arts was inspired by the effects of light through the shades and color in the stained glass of France’s old cathedrals such as Chartres and Notre-Dame-en-Vaux. Dorta said “…As an adult, I now perceive my paintings as a form of multicolor light through precise lines that reflect the influence of my passion for stained glass and how it refracts the straight lines that move throughout the day. That’s how I try to transmit the magic that can only live in those sacred windows.” While in Paris, Dorta enrolled in assorted visual arts programs such as molding and sculpting, pottery wheel, ceramics, Raku, mosaics, stained glass, and photography, among others. Dorta’s disposition for the arts was perceived as extracurricular activities or hobbies, so she continued studying business administration at the IUNP and law at the Universidad Santa Maria de Caracas.
However, in 2008, Dorta followed her passion for the arts by enrolling in the University of Art & Design in Miami, Florida, which generated in her a deeper thirst to cultivate and widen her skills through study and research.
Her work was first publicly exhibited in 2015 and received very positive reviews. The Miami Herald published: “Adriana Dorta has suddenly become one of the most successful emerging artists in Miami, ever since her exhibition during the 2015 Art Basel season in Miami. Her work captivates not only for its beauty, but for her spiritual message and ability to trap whoever looks at them.”
