Yumiko moved to Paris in 1999 and joined MADI. She adheres with originality and intelligence to the guiding principles. “MADI is the non-expression, the non-representation, the non-symbolization”, which leaves Yumiko free to experiment, and her favorite material is glass. Glass, light, and geometric abstraction are the essential elements of her research.
Yumiko Kimura was born in 1961 in Tokyo, where she obtained a diploma from BUNKA Fashion College. After studying sculpture at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin and product design with Shigheaki Asahara and Emanuele Nicosia, she completed her artistic studies at the Tokyo Art of Glass Centre of Kanagawa. Her experience gained by traveling in Europe allowed her to pursue her talent with glass even after moving to France.
MADI is a great artistic adventure, and perhaps, the only existing movement which can justify half a century of existence. MADI is more than an avant-garde movement; it has an underlying wave with several and differing offspring. It is the slow-paced growth of a tectonic plate in the history of art. Indeed, since art and environment are perveived as the fusion of two cultural phenomena, the progression and expression of both of these blend in everyday life.
