Richard Plumly, a seventh generation Texan, was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1948. His father (Henry Curtis Plumley) was a rancher and his mother (Ella Maie Hyatt Lapham), by whom he was inspired, was a very talented artist. At first Richard began working in mixed media geometrics on paper and experimented with plastic overlays. Later he worked with various computer programs in order to create printed versions before printing on aluminum composite. Always seeking a balance of rhythm & form, Richard also works in acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed-media and sculpture. Richard’s art was featured in the 2015 Biennial at the MADI Museum in Dallas, and he is the owner of Fine Arts of Texas, specializing in 19th & early 20th century Texas art in San Antonio, Texas.
MADI is a great artistic adventure, and perhaps, the only existing movement which can justify half a century of existence. MADI is more than an avant-garde movement; it has an underlying wave with several and differing offspring. It is the slow-paced growth of a tectonic plate in the history of art. Indeed, since art and environment are perveived as the fusion of two cultural phenomena, the progression and expression of both of these blend in everyday life.
